Playa del Carmen is located just 40 minutes south of International Airport Cancun in the heart of the Riviera Maya. Once a small village with a few inhabitants and mainly passed through to take the ferry to the Island of Cozumel, Playa del Carmen has grown to an International Tourist Destination with millions of visitors every year, and a Cosmopolitan town with over 250.000 inhabitants from all over the world.
Playa del Carmen is a beautiful beach town where Mexicans and all kinds of nations live together. This is the best part for me. I have friends from all over the world. Playa del Carmen is also still small enough to walk or bike everywhere, everything is pretty much close by, and taxis are not only affordable, they are also a big part of moving around for all locals, expats and residents.
Playa del Carmen & the Riviera Maya including Tulum are perfect places to spend vacations or spend some months while it is winter in your country or live permanently, like I do. More and more retirees and more and more people who are able to work online or attend their businesses abroad are moving to Playa del Carmen to enjoy a different, and most think better lifestyle.
The advantages to live in Playa del Carmen, Tulum or the Riviera Maya are obvious: lower cost of living, better prices for Homes (renting and buying), cheaper labor (you can easily afford a cleaning person or a gardener!), and the sunny tropical climate which makes life so much better!
Playa del Carmen offers for you and your friends/family great adventures & attractions as well.
White & sandy beaches, turquoise water, romantic evenings and dinners, excursion to ancient ruins of the Mayan civilization or water activities like snorkeling and diving; and much more: restaurants, International Festivals, charming Hotels, all inclusive Hotels, Spa’s, Golf Course, Theme Parks (Xcaret, Xel-Ha, etc.), Mayan Culture, Cenotes, the options are endless!
